Pasar Tani Farmers' Market
Government-organised, usually on weekend mornings — fresh produce direct from smallholders, often cheaper than a regular wet market. Different rhythm from a pasar malam, but the same "come early for the good stuff" energy.
Pasar Pagi / Pasar Basah Morning / Wet Market
The daytime counterpart — meat, fish, vegetables, usually indoors or under a permanent roof. Not what we track here (we're strictly after-dark), but worth knowing the difference when you're asking a local for directions.
Pasar Borong Wholesale Market
Bulk trading, mostly for stallholders and restaurants buying stock, not individual shoppers. You can visit, but go very early — most of the real trading happens before sunrise.
Bazaar Ramadan Ramadan Bazaar
A seasonal cousin of the pasar malam — pops up only during the fasting month, focused almost entirely on food for berbuka puasa. Some regular pasar malam locations host a Ramadan bazaar in the same spot; others are one-off setups just for the month.
Rantaian "Uptown" The Uptown Chain
A specific chain of larger, more organised night markets under one operator, found in a handful of townships. Distinct enough from an independent, community-run pasar malam that it's worth knowing the name if you see it mentioned.
